Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

The Preservation Society of Newport County is appealing federal agency approval of two massive wind farms off the Rhode Island coast.

Host your wedding, rehearsal dinner, corporate event, or other celebration at our historic museums.
Visitors with limited mobility may be able to enjoy a tour of the house and grounds as the site is equipped with ramps and an elevator. The house is climate-controlled. Limited bench seating is available for visitors to use throughout the tour route. Service dogs are welcome.
Parking lot
The parking lot for Rosecliff is located next to the main house. There are two designated handicapped parking stalls. The distance from the handicapped stall to the main entrance of the house is 345 feet.
Outdoor paths
The paths around the Rosecliff landscape vary in width. The narrowest pathways are 53 inches wide. Some of the pathways in the rose garden are made up of loose gravel. The parking lot and driveway to the main house are paved asphalt.
Elevator
The elevator is 34 inches wide and 42 inches deep. The elevator must be operated by a Preservation Society staff member,
The elevator is available between the first and second floors. Guests who cannot use stairs must enter and exit the house via the front door.
The elevator does not access the basement level where the Museum Store is located.
Lift dimensions
There is a lift to provide access to the first floor at Rosecliff. The lift is 60 inches by 41 inches.
Stairs
There are four stairs from the front entry to the first floor.
There are 38 stairs from the first floor to the second floor, with a small landing mid-flight. The hand railings do not start until partway up the stairs. Please use the elevator if you are unsteady on stairs.
There are 27 stairs from the first floor to the basement.
There are 38 stairs from the second floor down to the first floor. The hand railings only go down partway. Please use the elevator if you are not steady on stairs.
Distances
Total distance: Inside the house there are 688 feet to travel the entire tour route.
First-floor distance: On the tour route, there are 375 feet to complete the first floor. This area is made up of marble and wood floors, and the pathways are wide and easy to maneuver a wheelchair or walker through.
Second-floor distance: On the tour route, there are 313 feet to complete the second floor. This area is made up of carpet, and most pathways are easy to maneuver a wheelchair or walker through. There are some tight doorways, so those with mobility devices may be led around a different pathway to pass from one room to the next.
Restrooms
Restrooms are in the basement of the main house. Additionally, there is a handicapped restroom located on the first floor at Rosecliff. A guide will escort you if you need these facilities.
