History of Newport and the Mansions
Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

THIS CLASS IS FILLED

COURTLY COUTURE created with dried plant materials. A statue of a whimsical frog will be supplied to the exhibitor upon registration. (Statue need not be completely covered.)

AN EGG in the style of Fabergé created with dried plant materials. Egg stand provided to Exhibitor upon registration.

HAIR ORNAMENT(S) embellished with dried plant materials. Embellish man-made hair ornaments. All visible parts must be covered by plant material. Ornaments will be staged on a mannequin head/bust with a long blonde wig within a niche painted Rosecliff White. Wig and mannequin supplied upon registration.
NOVICE CLASS: Open to anyone who has not won a Blue Ribbon in this division of The Newport Flower Show. This class is open to Novices only.
• Viewed from the front. • The photo and details of staging will be included in the Exhibitor packet. • The mannequin may be placed in any position within the niche (i.e. facing forward or to the back.) • Wigs may be manipulated as the designer chooses. • Statement of Intent is optional. •
This fairy tale touches on the theme of inner beauty. It emphasizes that outward appearances may be deceiving, and true beauty lies within a person’s qualities and virtues. – “Beauty and the Beast” by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve (1740)
A ROSE design (a central motif in the fairy tale of Beauty and the Beast) using dried and/or pressed plant materials. Upon registration, exhibitors will receive a glass cloche and base (6” wide x 6” deep x 13” high).
• The rose will be staged inside the cloche on a pedestal painted Rosecliff White. • Statement of Intent is optional. • Photo and details of staging will be included in the Exhibitor packet. • Pedestal size: 18” square x 42” high

THUMBELINA’S BED created from all dried and/or pressed plant materials. Staged on an 8” square L-shaped stand atop a console with lighting above. The designer may enhance the L-shaped stand.
• Viewed and judged from the front. • A magnifying glass will be available at each entry. • Statement of Intent is optional. • Photo and details of staging will be included in the Exhibitor packet. • Console size: 35” wide x 15” deep x 49 ¾” high. (Two exhibits per console.)
Parking is free onsite at all properties except for Hunter House and The Breakers Stable & Carriage House, where street parking is available.
